WEIGHT LOSS (BODY COMPOSITION)
There is a lot of confusion in our country about the topic of weight loss and healthy eating. Should you go paleo? Vegan? Vegetarian? Should you avoid fat or carbs? Should I do P90X or Crossfit? The internet is saturated with information that isnt always trustworthy; my job is to simplify things a bit. Fad diets and exercise programs work great!.....for a month or so, but do nothing for you long term. I will teach you how to make real changes that last a lifetime. Weight loss programs include resistance training, cardiovascular training, and nutritional information.
MUSCLE GAIN (HYPERTROPHY)
The role of lean body mass goes way past just looking good. In fact, acording to the National Stength and Conditoning Association, resistance training may have a greater impact on fat loss than cardiovascular training alone. This is due to the impact resistance training has on your resting metabolic rate (or the calories that are burned for energy while at rest). The more lean body mass a person has, the greater the resting metabolic rate. This is just one of the many benefits resistance training!
So whether your goal is to get big and shredded or to lose fat and get tone (and yes, its for women too!), hypertrophy training should definitely be on your radar!
Strength training is what initially got me pumped about fitness. I saw it as a competition with myself. Every workout was a chance to push myself and become better. Strength training and hypertrophy training have a lot of overlapping benefits and I often use them in conjunction with one another to acheive specific goals. One thing that I always liked about strength training is the unique way that it pushed your body and your mind. Every set is like a battle to overcome; at times, one must build up courage to get under the bar and start fighting! This aspect of strength training has taught me how to face battles outside the gym as well. Strength training also has many other added benefits such as greater bone mineral density, improved functionality, and believe it or not, improved muscular endurance!
